- •T, P, composition changes à metamorphic rocks
- •Again – variable in properties à strength
- •foliated rocks
- •planes of weakness along foliation
- •strength: depends on directions of stress (slate to schist)
- •gneiss: interlocking xls & limited foliation
- •massive (nonfoliated)
- •quartzite, hornfels – very strong
- •marble: large interlocking xls, but weak à lower strength
- •And – remember the discontinuities !
